Martin O’Donnell is an American composer, audio director, and sound designer known for his work on video games such as Myth, Oni, Halo, and Destiny. During his career he closely collaborated with his musical colleague Michael Salvatori for many of the scores.
The beginning of his career started with writing music for television and radio jingles such as the Flintstones Vitamins jingle and scoring for radio stations and films. Martin’s work on the Halo trilogy has received critical acclaim, earning him several awards, and the commercial soundtrack release of the music to Halo 2 was the best-selling video game soundtrack of all time in the United States.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Martin recently about various topics including his journey into the world of music – especially game music, career highlights and significant influences on his musical production. Martin shared stories about the amazing collaborations he experienced while working on games we know and love today. He also told us about his recent ambitious work and what is there to expect in the near future.
With that said, we hope that you will enjoy this new interview.
"If you want to get in, you better be a fan of games. Study those things. Say yes to little collaborative moments that you can get together with other people."
